The Conservation Alliance was founded in 1989 by REI, Patagonia, The North Face, and Kelty, and now consists of hundreds of member organizations and individual donors. The Alliance disburses member dues and individual donations to grassroots environmental organizations following a rigorous grant proposal review process that ensures money is directed to outcome-based initiatives. The Alliance has helped save more than 73 million acres of wildlands, protect 3,575 miles of rivers, stop or remove 35 dams, designate five marine reserves, and purchased 17 climbing areas.
Next time you find yourself in seemingly untouched wilderness and wondering how it has managed to avoid the one-way road of development for housing, strip malls and chain restaurants, let your next thought be the Conservation Alliance. Between direct acquisition of premiere wilderness or the millions of dollars of grant funding they've provided to other grassroots organizations preserving wild places, the reach of the Conservation Alliance is incredible and unparalleled. Atmos is proud to be a Conservation Alliance member. - Pete
